IT Governance A Relationship centred approach

“In our study of organizations seeking IT cost savings via outsourcing, we found that good relationship management made a 40% difference in cost savings” – Logica and Warwick Business School.

Why

Historically, the majority of IT Governance practices have been very much process centred and compliance driven. Despite the detailed attention IT governance receives, the majority of IT functions along with their IT end user clients would admit that the relationship between the IT function and its customers is often a rocky one. Poor relationships will lead to poor business results. The despair of the IT executive is reflected in the common quote “We are meeting our service level agreements, but the customer is still not happy!” As indicated by the latest ITIL developments, the focus for IT Governance is necessarily expanding to address business relationships. What is missing to date is pragmatic advice and practical approaches to IT relationship management.

This workshop is aimed at addressing the lack of practical approaches to IT relationship management. Attendees will learn how to manage the “social contract” along side their SLA contracts, to achieve optimal results for their clients and their businesses overall. Organisational Network Analysis techniques will be used to demonstrate how relationships can be improved within the organisation as well as out into the market place. Issues around multi-sourcing and leveraging social capital for IT procurement will also be addressed, along with the impact of Web 2.0 technologies on IT Governance.
